Police Arrest Teen for the Stabbing at Northwood High School

Update: A 17-year-old girl is under arrest for the stabbing of a Montgomery Blair High School student after a basketball game at Northwood High School.

Police charged Briana Sarai Funes of the 2200 block of Shorefield Road as an adult for the crime. She faces charges of attempted homicide, first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and carrying a dangerous weapon on school property.

Police said witness accounts led police to Funes on December 7. Funes voluntarily responded to the 3rd District police station for an interview. That’s when police said she confessed to the stabbing.

Funes told police she saw the 17-year-old victim involved in a fight in the Northwood High School parking lot with one of Funes’ friends. Funes told police she got a knife she had in her jacket pocket and stabbed the victim repeatedly in the back before fleeing the scene in her car, according to police reports.

Original story: Police are investigating a fight that broke out Dec. 6 between students from John F. Kennedy High School and Montgomery Blair High School after a basketball game at Northwood High School.

A 17-year-old student from Blair was found with multiple stab wounds and taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the girl was trying to stop a fight between her friend and another female student when she was stabbed.

WJLA reported that the girl from Blair was said to have been stabbed three times in the back.

Police are looking for two suspects, believed to be students at Kennedy High School: “a black female, 5’6”, with chin-length hair” and “a Hispanic female, 5’5” to 5’6”, heavy set, with bushy hair.”
