Metro Bus Driver Stabbed Outside Wheaton Metro Station

A female passenger tried to intervene, even blocking a punch aimed at her.

Update, 11:11 a.m.: A 28-year-old Metro bus driver was stabbed in his midsection and left arm shortly after midnight outside the Wheaton Metro Station, Montgomery County police said in a media release. 

Police have arrested Victor McEachin, 52, of Aspen Hill, who was a passenger on the bus. He has been charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and possession of marijuana. Police found the marijuana and a knife when they caught up with the suspect a few blocks away from the Metro station. 

The confrontation between McEachin and the bus driver began at the Silver Spring Metro Station, police said. A passenger complained that McEachin was touching himself inappropriately, and the bus driver asked McEachin to stop his behavior. Then, as the driver was driving the bus to the Wheaton Metro Station, McEachin came to the front of the bus and began loudly talking, police said. At the station, everyone left the bus, and McEachin tried to charge at the bus driver.

A 26-year-old female acquaintance of the bus driver attempted to intervene and blocked a punch aimed at her, police said. McEachin and the driver began to fight, and the driver realized he had been stabbed.

The bus driver was taken to a local hospital. His injuries were not life-threatening, according to police.

12:57 a.m.: Montgomery County Police are assisting Metro Transit Police in investigating a stabbing at the Wheaton Metro Station, county police said.

Metro police have not returned calls for comment and county police would not provide more information.
