A Montgomery County teen died Monday as three swimmers were caught in a rip current off an Ocean City beach.
Authorities said Tuesday afternoon that the victim was Don Pen Soh Boma, who had recently graduated as an honor student from Paint Branch High School in Burtonsville, reports WJLA TV.
City spokeswoman Jessica Waters told Fox 45 TV that the swimmers were caught in a riptide about 4:30 p.m. Monday near the 137th Street beach.
The Ocean City Beach Patrol says a lifeguard was able to rescue two of the swimmers, but the Montgomery County swimmer was not found right away.
Fifteen rescue swimmers responded to the call to find the missing swimmer, according to DelMarvaNow, and 13 from the Ocean City Beach Patrol and two rescue swimmers from the resort's fire department turned out.
Ocean City police spokeswoman Lindsay O'Neal said several of the rescue swimmers pulled the victim from the water and performed CPR.
He was taken to Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin by paramedics, but was pronounced dead shortly after, says WJLA TV.
