Multiple Car Crash on Beltway Inner Loop

Several people have trauma-level injuries.

Updated post, 2:40 p.m.: Capt. Oscar Garcia of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services gave an account of the inner loop of the Beltway and the injuries of the people who were hurt:

Nine people were transported to area hospitals. Five of them had serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The other four had less serious injuries. One of the injured is a child, Garcia confirmed. 

At least two SUVs were involved in the accident, which occurred before the Georgia Avenue exit on the inner loop. Maryland State Police will investigate the cause of the accident, including which vehicle was at fault.

Garcia confirmed that the injured went to Holy Cross Hospital, Suburban Hospital, Washington Hospital Center and Childrens Hospital in D.C.

"We had three people and all but one have been released," said Holy Cross Hospital Spokeswoman Yolanda Gaskins.

One lane of traffic, as well as the right-hand shoulder lane is still closed. 

Original post, 1:30 p.m.: At least 10 people are injured, some seriously so, after a multi-car collision on the inner loop of the Beltway, snaring all but one lane before the Georgia Avenue exit.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service responded to the accident call at noon with 12 personnel.

At least four of the injuries are traumas, according to Capt. Oscar Garcia of the fire department.

The State Highway Administration's incident report says that two more lanes have opened up since the accident, but traffic is still very slow.
