UPDATE: Kensington Man Struck and Killed by Car in Wheaton

The man was hit as he stepped off the curb; the driver of the vehicle is a resident of Silver Spring.

Update, 1:11 p.m.: Victor Noel Williams, 52, of the 2900 block of Peregoy Drive in Kensington, was struck and killed by a vehicle as he stepped off the curb into the southbound lanes of Georgia Avenue at Windham Lane in Wheaton early Saturday, according to Montgomery County Police.

Fourth District officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue responded to the scene at approximately 7:25 a.m.

Williams was transported to Holy Cross Hospital where he died from his injuries.

The driver of the green, 2000 Honda Accord is identified as Armida Herrara, of the 4500 block of Gridley Road in Silver Spring. She was not injured.

The accident remains under investigation. Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed this fatal pedestrian collision to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301-840-2435. Callers may remain anonymous.

Update, 11:23 a.m.: WTOP reports the southbound lanes of Georgia Avenue at Reedie Drive and Viers Mill Road have reopened.

Montgomery County Police have not released additional information about its investigation into Saturday morning's fatal accident that claimed the life of a pedestrian.

Update, 10:52 a.m.: Montgomery County Police are still on the scene of a fatal accident that occured early Saturday.

Police said southbound Georgia Avenue at Viers Mill Road would be shut down for quite sometime.

Original post, 9:58 a.m.: A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car in Wheaton early Saturday, according to Montgomery County Police.

Police received the call at 7:25 a.m. and are currently on the scene conducting an investigation.

Southbound Georgia Avenue is blocked at Reedie Drive; the northbound lanes are open, police said.
