The body of a Germantown man who disappeared under the water Wednesday was recovered Friday afternoon from the Triadelphia Reservoir near Brookeville.

According to the Montgomery County Police Department, the victim has been identified as Avery Troix Williams, 19, of the 19600 block of Crystal Rock Drive in Germantown.

Late Wednesday afternoon, authorities were notified that Williams began struggling in the water, went under the surface and did not reappear. The reservoir prohibits wading and swimming, but Williams was there with a group of friends, all in the water.

Friends at the lake immediately contacted 9-1-1 for assistance.

Rescuers from Montgomery and Howard County, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and other jurisdictions searched for Williams' body. It was recovered about 2:30 p.m. Friday by the Charles County Volunteer Dive Rescue Team and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police Underwater Operations Unit.

Montgomery County Police detectives are leading the death investigation since the reservoir runs between Howard and Montgomery counties, and the water is within Montgomery County’s jurisdiction.
