Police Resolve Brief Standoff with Man Barricading Himself With Machete

No one was hurt in mid-day incident.

Update - 3:30pm

The suspect, Jose Felix Castillo, 59, was charged with one count of first-degree assault and one count of attempt first-degree assault. 

Police received the first call at 9:15 a.m. and spoke with the victim, Castillo's daughter-in-law, at 9:28 a.m. when she exited the house. When police could not get in touch with Castillo, an Emergency Response Team surrounded the house and attempted to negotiate with him for the next two hours.

After no response, the response team went into the house and arrested Castillo shortly after 12:30 p.m.

Police and the Montgomery County SWAT team arrested a suspect at 12:36 p.m. today after the man barricaded himself inside a house with a machete on the 10400 block of Haywood Drive in Wheaton near by Evans Drive. No one was hurt.

TBD reported that the police received a call of a domestic dispute at 9:15 a.m., describing a man allegedly threatening his wife and children with the weapon. The SWAT team entered the house at noon.

Police spokeswoman Angela Cruz said that police had received a domestic disturbance call on October 2nd from the same addressed and it had been "cleared without incident". Police are not releasing the suspect's name at the moment.
