Police Search for Suspect in Attempted ATM Robbery

The suspect tried to steal money that a customer withdrew from a bank ATM on Georgia Avenue, but did not succeed.

Montgomery County Police are investigating an attempted strong-armed robbery that occurred on Jan. 30 at the located at 11241 Georgia Avenue in Wheaton.

At approximately 5:53 p.m., officers responded to the area of Reedie Drive and Georgia Avenue for a robbery that had just occurred.

According to police, the victim was at the drive-up ATM withdrawing money when a suspect walked from behind the car, up to the driver’s side window and attempted to steal the withdrawn money out of the victim’s hand. The victim was able to fend off the suspect, who did not obtain any money. The suspect then fled on foot heading north on Georgia Ave.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, age 26 to 28, 5’7” tall with a thin build. He was wearing a black winter coat and black jeans.
