Tridelphia Reservoir remains closed Thursday as local and state authorities continue to search for a missing swimmer who is presumed drowned.
Technical rescue teams from Montgomery and Howard counties first converged on Tridelphia Lake Wednesday after a swimmer was reported missing.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services Spokesman Pete Piringer says the 19-year-old man was with a group of swimmers when he disappeared.
According to the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, swimming is prohibited at the reservoir. Fishing and boats, kayaks and canoes are allowed in parts of the lake.
Montgomery County Police interviewed witnesses at the lake while Howard County’s dive team searched for the swimmer. Divers were focused Wednesday on a cove near the Greenbridge Recreation Area, Piringer said on his Twitter feed.
Searchers suspended their efforts Wednesday night near Brighton Dam because of inclement weather. Authorities resumed the search for the swimmer’s body Thursday morning using sonar and thermal imaging, Piringer said.
Maryland Department of Natural Resource dive teams joined the hunt for the victim Thursday.
