Suspect in M&T Bank Robbery Arrested Near the Scene

Suspect's identity will not be released until officially charged.

Update, June 28: The arrested suspect is Brian Lee Maddox, 29, of the 500 block of Lamont Street NW in Washington D.C.

Maddox is charged with robbery and first-degree assault. He is currently being held on a no-bond status. A bond review hearing will be held today at 1:00 p.m. at the Rockville District Court. 

Update, 2:30 p.m.: Forty-five minutes after the robbery, a police officer in the area saw a man matching the lookout description and attempted to stop him. The man fled on foot but after a short chase, the suspect was in custody and identified positively by witnesses. He had a portion of the stolen bank proceeds on him.

Police will not release the suspect's name or information until he is formally charged.

Original story, 10:40 a.m.: Montgomery County police are looking for a suspect described as a black male, possibly with dreads and glasses "like Harry Potter," in connection with a bank robbery at M&T Bank near Shorefield Road this morning.

Police responded to a robbery call at 9:54 a.m. at 12041 Georgia Ave., the M&T Bank inside the Shorefield Road shopping center.

Sgt. Sanger, a police officer on scene, said that the suspect handed a bank employee a note containing a death threat. There was no weapon or weapon implied, but money, specifically cash, was taken. 

Police dogs are sniffing the scene and robbery investigators are beginning their investigation.
