UPDATE: Police Identify Second Pedestrian Killed on Veirs Mill Road

The driver who hit the second pedestrian with a SUV did not stop.

Update, 5 p.m., Dec. 21:

Police have identified the man who died early Sunday morning after being struck by two vehicles while crossing Veirs Mill Road near the Randolph Crossing Shopping Center.

The man has been identified as Luis Martinez, approximately 39 years of age, with an unknown address, police said. Martinez was originally from Guatemala.

Original story, Dec. 19:

A man who remains unidentified died early Sunday morning after he was hit twice crossing Veirs Mill Road, police said. It is  on the road in 24 hours. 

About 10:23 p.m., the man was crossing Veirs Mill mid-block from the Randolph Crossing Shopping Center. He was hit first by a dark green 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo then again by a dark colored SUV.

He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital and then to the Washington Hospital Center, where he died at 12:48 a.m., police said.

He is described as a Hispanic male, possibly between 35 and 50 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches tall, and weighing 170 pounds. He has black hair and a mustache. He was wearing a black jacket, a blue checkered button-down shirt, blue jeans, and black slip on shoes.
 
The driver of the Monte Carlo has been identified as Patrick Manning Hughley, 47, of the 1000 block of South Belgrade Road in Silver Spring, police said. He was not injured. The driver of the SUV did not stop.

The first pedestrian death occurred on Saturday when a man waiting for a bus on Veirs Mill Road was struck and killed by an automobile that left the roadway, police said.

Rolando Grande Martinez, 59, of the 11900 block of Andrew Court, was at the stop near Centerhill Street at about 5 a.m.

A Mercury Milan, driven by Yared Tesfaye, traveling eastbound, left the road and crossed onto the sidewalk, striking Martinez, according to a news release from Montgomery County Police.

After striking Martinez, the Mercury kept moving and collided with a 2010 Toyota Tacoma in the driveway of a home on Huggins Drive. The Mercury hit a tree before finally coming to rest, police said.

Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Tesfaye, 24, of the 12900 block of Margot Drive in Rockville, was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit are asking anyone who witnessed the collisions to call them at 301-840-2435. Callers may remain anonymous.
