According to planners, the sector plan “will assess what has changed in the area since 1997, re-evaluate past recommendations, and reflect the community’s vision for a transit-oriented, revitalized community.”

Glenmont, according to the vision in the draft, is seen “as a predominately residential neighborhood with new transit-oriented, mixed-use development concentrated in and around the Glenmont Shopping Center and Metro station.

The Glenmont of the future will be a walkable, diverse, and sustainable community with services and amenities primarily for the local residents and workers.”

The entire draft can be viewed online at MontgomeryPlanning.org.

Earlier this year planners held three workshops to propose a detailed vision of potential developmentand to hear what residents wanted changed in their community. In the summer, a set of preliminary recommendations were presented to the board.

Once the Planning Board reviews the draft, it will request a public hearing for Dec. 20, before scheduling work sessions on the plan for early 2013.
