Glenmont Sector Plan Public Hearing Set for July 30

Planners envision a future Glenmont that transforms the central shopping center.

The process of updating a document that will guide future development in Glenmont is nearing completion.

On Tuesday, the Montgomery County Council will hold a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. on the Planning Board draft of the Glenmont Sector Plan.

The July 30 public hearing will take place in Rockville at the council building, in the 3rd floor hearing room at 100 Maryland Avenue. Anyone who wants to testify can call 240-777-7803.

County planners envision a future Glenmont that remains a residential neighborhood area, but that also takes advantage of the Glenmont Metro Station as a transit hub.

The creation of the sector plan began in January 2012 when planners presented a scope of work to the Planning Board. What followed were community meetings, board worksessions, and a public hearing at the board's headquarters in Silver Spring.

To read the draft that the Planning Board approved at the end of May, visit the county's planning department website.

Now the sector plan moves to the Montgomery County Council, where residents and other stakeholders will have further opportunity to give comments.
