Health Center to Be Added to Highland Elementary

School center will provide access to health services for Highland students and families.

students and their families have the potential to be healthier as a new health center begins construction at their school.

School-based health centers, currently part of several elementary schools and , offer access to services like check-ups from pediatricians and nurse practitioners, as well as immunizations and dental work.

Whether added by modernization of the whole school or addition, the inclusion of a health center into a Montgomery County school is based on a series of factors, including percentages of ESOL students, incomes of school families and other risk factors.

Highland is the second school in the area, after Northwood, that will be getting a health center. The center will be added through an addition in the front of the school.

On June 27, the Board of Education awarded the contract for construction to Towson Mechanical, Inc., the lowest of eight bids at $1.36 million.

Construction is expected to begin within the month.
