Meeting Roundup: Wheaton Redevelopment Advisory Committee

Committee discusses combined library and recreational center, impact on small businesses of B.F. Saul project.

Wheaton Redevelopment Advisory Committee met Wednesday evening for their June meeting. Here's what was discussed:

  • The Wheaton Sector Plan will go to the County Council for a hearing on July 19. The design guidelines, largely for Planning Board staff's internal use, will is scheduled conditionally for July 14. 
  • David Dise, from the County's Department of General Services gave an update on the . Once the new budget kicks in, on July 1, they will begin to do preliminary engineering, discuss with the Parks department how the County will acquire the current rec center land and study how to best move the right of way on Hermitage Avenue.
  • The WRAC committee, recently finished outreach to the small businesses that will be , brought a bulleted point of business' concerns to Steve Silverman, director of the Department of Economic Development. Silverman said all the suggestions were "on the table", and that County Executive Leggett was committed to "including a line-item budget for small business assistance" as part of the entire Wheaton redevelopment program.   • Rob Klein reported that Loiederman Soltesz, the architect on the B.F. Saul team, was also starting introductory study on the . Matching Ennalls Avenue's corner with Price Avenue's corner on Georgia Avenue and extending Ennalls to connect with the mall ring road is one of the recommendations of the Sector Plan as passed by the Planning Board.
