Mid-County Group Discusses Cut Backs to Service Centers

An update on the May meeting of the Mid-County Citizens Advisory Board.

The Mid-County Citizens Advisory Board met on Tuesday evening to discuss issues related to the service center and its area - from Olney to Wheaton and parts of Silver Spring.

Natalie Cantor, director of the Mid-County Center said that based on the budget decisions in the Council, it appears that there will be no formal office of community engagement, and the departments related to that office - the Commission for Women, the Gilchrist Center for Cultural Diversity and the office of Community Partnerships, along with the five county service centers, would be "aggregated" - i.e. existing by themselves, with a small support staff available at the county level.

What does that mean for the Mid- County Service Center? All support positions staff have been eliminated - leaving Cantor functionally the sole direct employee of the Center. For the Citizens Advisory Board, they will have to deal with the administrativen tasks of the Board - taking minutes, emailing agendas, etc. - without staff support
