Montgomery County Self-Sufficiency Wage Tops New York City

A study shows the high cost of self-sufficiency in Montgomery County, making it more expensive for working families than New York City and San Francisco.

Without government or private assistance, a single parent with one preschooler and one school-age child must earn $36.90 per hour, according to a report by University of Washington researchers.

The substantial rise in Montgomery County's self-sufficiency standard over the past decade makes the county more expensive for working families than New York City and San Francisco, according to the study.
