From a news release:

Montgomery Village has been named a 2013 Tree City USA community by The National Arbor Day Foundation to honor its commitment to community forestry. It is the 26th year Montgomery Village has received this national recognition.

According to the National Arbor Day Foundation, Montgomery Village has met four criteria to become a Tree City USA, including a tree board or department; a tree care ordinance; maintaining a community forestry budget; and holding an official Arbor Day observance.

Montgomery Village celebrated Arbor Day by planting black gum trees at North Creek Community Center.

“Everyone benefits when elected officials, volunteers and committed citizens in communities like Montgomery Village make smart investments in urban forests,” said John Rosenow, founder and chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation. “Trees bring shade to our homes and beauty to our neighborhoods, along with numerous economic, social and environmental benefits.”

Cleaner air, improved storm water management, energy savings and increased property values are among the benefits enjoyed by Tree City USA communities.

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by The National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service.

Is that why MVF had lawn service(s) running around past number of weeks trimming 'dead as doornail' trees particularly these bothersome pine trees that make up most of the Village??!!!! I still would like to know if National Arbor Foundation takes survey via airplane and does a 'tree count' rather than on the ground...up close and personal! Are we ranked according to 'quality or QUANTITY'??!! Hummm! There's been a very large, DEAD pine tree branch laying near roadside in South Village that has been there since beginning of winter and our 1st snowfall. And there are quite a few other same case scenarios along the Village Avenue. These 'seeming contests' are entertaining!
