Navarro, Riemer Delay Vote for Wheaton Revitalization Working Group

Read why these two Montgomery County councilmembers decided to postpone a council vote on a resolution to create a working group for monitoring progress on Wheaton revitalization.

On Tuesday, Montgomery County Council Vice President Nancy Navarro and Hans Riemer that would monitor progress on Wheaton revitalization.

But on Thursday, they made the joint decision to pull the resolution before it came to a tentatively scheduled July 17 vote.

The resolution about how the councilmembers would choose members of the community, and how the working group would affect already existing committees, such as the Wheaton Urban District Advisory Committee.

Adam Fogel, Navarro's chief of staff, explained that Navarro and Riemer wanted to allow more time for discussion with other councilmembers and members of the community, in order to form a consensus approach.

"The last thing that we want is a divisive conversation about Wheaton," Fogel said.

It's always good to gain insight into how the minds of our dynamic leaders work, or don't. It's no wonder Wheaton is in the state it's in.

I think this whole idea was pretty dumb to begin with. When I saw that Reimer proposed the formation of group to monitor Wheaton redevelopment at the meeting of the WHEATON REDEVELOPMENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE, I could only laugh in frustration. This is a new level of cluelessness when it comes to the council's involvement in and understanding of Wheaton and its residents. To propose the formation of a group like this, when there is already an involved group of residents and business owners in WRAC, who are eager to have their voice heard, is just ridiculous. I say, rather than put on a big show about forming some new group, how about the council members actually taking some time to LISTEN to the groups that are already meeting to discuss these very issues. Otherwise, the members of both WRAC and WUDAC are essentially just talking to themselves at their meetings, which is a waste of everyone's time.

Pulling the resolution was the right thing to do. Wheaton already has two Wheaton Revitaliation Working Groups--WUDAC and WRAC. Councilmembers are always welcome to attend these open meetings.

Not here to defend the Council's decision to create this group because I see your point and its well taken.
I would say that the slight difference between this "working group" and WRAC and WUDAC is that members of the latter are appointed by the County Executive while the working group will be made up of people appointed by the Council. There is still that gray area of overlap and so forth and I will definitely concede that to you. I think delaying the vote was a good idea because it seemed to be rush and more thought needs to be put into what exactly the group will do and accomplish

Thanks for the memories of our favorite park, Hershey Park in Hershey, PA. The old wooden rollerRead More coaster was also our very favorite. There was also another favorite, much tamer Love Boat ride that went through a dark tunnel and then went up an incline and you got wet at the end of the ride. Visiting the Hershey Chocolate Factory was also a must on our trip to Hershey. We grew up in nearby York, PA.

Going to Hershey Park had been a yearly event when we took our own three children to Hershey Park.Read More They loved it there, too. All three of our children are now married and have taken their children to Hershey Park. We have also been to Hershey, PA to the famous Hershey Car Show, where we purchased a 1994 Chrysler LeBaron convertible. I enjoyed reading your article.

Cori, you have no idea how much this helps. I just found out some of the details about the Geo BowlRead More and it sounds like a much better situation for my kiddo than I was originally imagining. I'm going to reach out to the team tonight. I imagine that they will be receptive to my worries. I'm hoping that all of the worst case scenarios are in my head and only in my head, which is probably likely. :) Maybe I'll see you at the Geo Bowl!

Yes and yes to everything you say here. The reality of parenthood is simultaneously far far worseRead More and far far better than the fantasy could possibly be. The truth about living with multiple pairs of giant stinky man shoes should be enough to make most of us think twice about filling our houses with male offspring. And when did I sign up to help a hormonal 15 yr old write an impossible essay on a book he's not yet read, due in 3 days? It's lucky we love them so much is all I can say.
