Revisited: Wheaton vs. Bethesda in County Budget

Council President Roger Berliner told the Gazette that the two communities are not pitted against each other in the county budget.

 

Discussions revolving around Wheaton redevelopment and a Purple Line project for Bethesda gave rise to assertions that the two projects were directly competing against each other in the Montgomery County budget,

But Montgomery Council President Roger Berliner says this is false, according to a recent Gazette article, and Glenn Orlin, deputy council staff director, also has discredited this characterization.

“Orlin said because most of the $100 million the committee proposed for the Purple Line projects would be spent starting in fiscal 2016 and $33.5 million of the originally proposed $42 million for Wheaton is earmarked for the first three years of the spending plan, it’s clear Wheaton never was at odds with Bethesda.”
