Walking Tour Planned in Wheaton

Organizers of the Saturday walk hope it will spark discussion about redevelopment.

How can Wheaton become safer, more vibrant, and more walkable as it goes through redevelopment?

The Coalition for Smarter Growth and the Wheaton Urban District Advisory Committee are teaming up to answer this question by holding a walking tour of Wheaton on Saturday, June 1, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Here's how WUDAC is describing the tour:

The theme of the tour is “Envisioning the Future of a Walkable Wheaton”. While much is known about where redevelopment will occur, not much is made about creating a comprehensive plan for Wheaton that includes walking, biking, best design practices, and other smart growth principles. The discussion during the tour will focus on how to best ensure that redevelopment results in a safe, vibrant, and walkable environment throughout the entire Wheaton Urban District, from Lot 13 to the corners of the Urban District.

Starting at Lot 13, we will walk throughout the Wheaton Urban District and visit various sites that showcase Wheaton’s potential as a viable walkable community. The Walking Tour will be led by members of WUDAC in coordination with members from the Coalition of Smarter Growth and will also examine the potential of a vibrant and exciting community outside the area designated for the town square. The tour will conclude with an opportunity to network with many of the small business and resident stakeholders in Wheaton.
