Wheaton Clean and Safe Team Prepares for Snow

Wheaton Urban District workers loaded salt and sand Tuesday.

The Wheaton Urban District's Clean and Safe Team was in "prep mode" Tuesday, according to Joe Callaway, chief of operations.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Montgomery County for midnight Wednesday through 3 a.m. Thursday. Forecasters are predicting 6 inches to a foot of snow.

"The staff is prepared for a long day or two and prepared to stay overnight," Callaway wrote in an email to Patch.

On Tuesday, the team loaded salt and sand, fueled trucks and snow blowers and attached plows.

Callaway said the team will focus on bus stops and curb cuts, the ramps connecting sidewalks to the street surface. The team will also clear a snow blower's width on the public sidewalks if needed, he said.
