Feasibilty Study Decision on High Schools Scheduled for September

Original Board action date was August 25.

With the committee meetings and a preferences selected, the decision on how Wheaton and Edison high schools will be modernized is now the decision of the Superintendent and the Board of Education.

Originally the Board listed the feasibility study for their meeting in August. The item now appears on the Sept. 13 agenda, along with the feasibility study for Farquhar Middle School.

The draft feasibility study is now available on the MCPS website here, with the ability to make public comment via email.

The Board will vote on the Superintendent's recommendation, which they can amend based on their own votes. Dr. Starr has not issued a recommendation on this particular project yet.

Theresa Defino, an Edison parent who has been following the feasibility study closely is not thrilled about the timing, even with the postponment.

"The rescheduling to after the start of the school year is better than in late August. But we still think this should not even be placed on any agenda for action until the superintendent's recommendation has been issued," Defino said. "At this point we still don't even know when that will happen, let alone what he will say."
