MCPS, Consultants Show More Edison/Wheaton Modernization Options Tonight at PTA Meeting

Board of Education wants to see a one-building and a two-building concept.

The last scheduled meeting on concepts for the modernization of Wheaton and Edison High Schools is scheduled for tonight at 7 p.m. at Wheaton High School's media center.

In the , attendees knocked down the options to one one-building concept and one two-building concept. In a , the Board of Education asked the Facilities Management Department to make both one and two building options a part of their feasiblity study for both schools. 

 is a comprehensive high school in the downcounty consortium and , a technical and career skills high school that students attend alongside their home school.

But conversations with Parks and Planning means that additional possiblities are available to study on the site. MCPS staff and the consultants on the project, Grimm and Parker, told attendees at the last meeting that they'd have more sketched out concepts involving the use of space currently taken up by a County softball field ready for this meeting.

Members of both Edison and Wheaton's communities were concerned about how much square footage will go to each program. Debbie Szyfer, senior planner at the Division of Long-Range Planning,  said she was still updating the programming space based on meetings with engineers, and that the programming space alotted would likely change again when new enrollment projects are available in the fall.
