Oakland Terrace ES Student Wins MLK Jr. Literary Contest

Joey Lambert read his poem aloud at Montgomery County's Martin Luther King Jr. tribute.

At last week's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. tribute in Montgomery County, two students were honored for their winning contributions to a literary contest in King's honor. Watch the video from Montgomery Community Media to hear Maya Walker of Gaithersburg Elementary School and Joey Lambert of Oakland Terrace Elementary School share their entries.

Some lines from Lambert's poem:

Well I too have a dream, Dr. King,

except my wish is broader, and that's the thing.

I dream of an ideal world where everyone has what they need,

Find out what's happening in Wheatonwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

like food and water, when you have extra mouths to feed...

That there would be world peace and no one is shot.

If the world was like that, I would like it a lot.
