Q & A with Kennedy High School Principal Dr. Eric Minus

Dr. Minus is the second in a four-part series profiling Wheaton-area High School principals.

As another school year is upon us, Patch sat down with four Wheaton-area High School principals to find out what they did on their summer vacation and their outlook on the 2011-2012 school year.

Patch: What was the most fun thing you did on your summer vacation?

Dr. Eric Minus: Spending time with my family as it is difficult to have uninterrupted time with them throughout the school year.

E.M: The most challenging piece of starting the new year is working to ensure that there are adequate academic and social structures and processes in place to ensure that students will be successful throughout the year.

Patch: How do you see the County budget cuts affecting Kennedy High School?

E.M:  Not just Kennedy, but all of our schools will have to figure out a way to continue to produce and maintain student achievement results with less resources, especially as our populations continue to become more diverse and the school enrollment increases, None of those variables should warrant less resources for schools.

Patch: What single event are you most looking forward to during the 2011-2012 school year?

E.M: I really look forward to graduation and watching the seniors walk across the stage because I have a clear understanding of what they have gone through in four years to reach that point. It still gives me chills.

Patch: Please share one new thing about your school for this year.

E.M: The rejuvenation of our Academy Programs should be an exciting experience for all of us in the school and the community. I am pleased that every student at Kennedy will have a place and hopefully feel a since of belonging.
