Whiz Kid: Andrew Hickey

Kennedy student helps create a walkable forest at Forest Knolls.

Whiz Kid: Andrew Hickey

Year in School: sophomore at John F.

Accomplishment: Created a 250 foot nature trail at a local elementary school. For his Eagle Scout Project, Andrew led and instructed more than 50 volunteers from Boy Scout Troop 249, the JFK High School NJROTC Unit, and community members to create a nature trail in a reforested area behind Forest Knolls Elementary School on Saturday, March 19. The nature trail project is part of a larger effort by the Forest Knolls PTA’s Conservation Landscaping Committee to create a neighborhood forest that allows students, families and neighbors to enjoy indigenous trees, plants, and wildflowers. Andrew's project required getting donations from businesses such as Home Depot and Aggregate Industries (gravel), marking out the trail and instructing and directing the volunteers to cut, clear and lay gravel on the path.
