Members of the Kemp Mill Swim Team in Wheaton, Md., will be swimming laps to fight blood cancers 6 PM Tuesday, July 17!

Team members (known as Joeys, 'Roos and Master ‘Roos after the team mascot, a kangaroo) will swim as many laps as possible during the two-hour event. The goal is to swim more than 2,500 laps to rais e $2,500 for the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society.

The team already has more than $1,900 in cash and pledges.

It's taking donations on the team's website at teamunify.com/recmcslkmk. Check out the big green “donate” button!

Each year, more than 100,000 cases of blood, bone marrow, and lymph node cancers are diagnosed in the United States, and more than 50,000 people die from these cancers. Among children and teens less than 20 years old, leukemia is the most common cancer and the leading cause of cancer death.

Parents, family, friends, and the community are invited to come cheer on the swimmers.

The Kangaroo Kafe will be selling food and drinks.

And if that isn’t enough, the swim team will be announcing the winning bidders in its ‘RooBay silent auction!  Attendees will get one more chance to look over the goods and services donated for auction before the bidding closes at precisely 6 PM.

The pool is located at 11805 Stonington Pl., Silver Spring, MD 20902. Its president is Stephen Perencevich.
