Obituary: Linda Kahan, 64

Kahan passed away March 29.

Linda Kahan, a Silver Spring resident who retired from a top U.S. Food and Drug Administration position in 2007, passed away March 29. Missing Man Found Dead; Family to Hold Viewing on Sunday

Manuel Enrique Diaz Gomez, who had recently moved from Wheaton to Silver Spring, was found dead Nov. 6 after his family had reported him missing on Oct. 31.

The family of Manuel Enrique Diaz Gomez will hold a viewing from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. on Nov. 13 at Collins Funeral Home in Silver Spring. Gomez, 37, was reported missing Oct. 31. His body was found on Sunday in Hanover and police are investigating it as a homicide. Gomez was staying with family friend Ursula Laureano in Silver Spring just before he went missing, but had been living on Easecrest Drive in Wheaton a few months earlier. Gomez’s mother and one of his brothers traveled from the Dominican Republic, his home country, for the funeral, Laureano said. Another brother came down from Montreal, Canada. Gomez’s son and ex-wife live in New Jersey. Laureano said Gomez was like a brother to her and a “hard-working, friendly person.” …

William Donald Schaefer Leaves 'Do It Now' Legacy on Maryland Politics

The former governor will lie in state at the State House in Annapolis and in the rotunda of Baltimore City Hall.

UPDATE (8:30 a.m.)—William Donald Schaefer—Baltimore's legendary former mayor, Maryland governor and state comptroller—died Monday at around 6:30 p.m. in his bed at the Charlestown retirement community in Catonsville, according to his longtime friend Lainy M. LeBow-Sachs. "I was with him holding his hand," LeBow-Sachs told Patch. "He couldn't speak." Schaefer, 89, was released from the hospital earlier this month after a five-day stay for pneumonia and returned to Charlestown, where Maryland's 58th governor has lived for three years. Kennedy Teachers Remember Doodley DeRose

DeRose was a great speaker, leader of his classmates.

Doodley DeRose knew the college he was going to at first sight. “I remember his face,” said Timothy McNeil, his advisor and mentor in high school “He turned to me and said, ‘This is where I’m coming to school’” “You haven’t even taken the tour yet,” McNeil said, as they stepped off the bus in Petersburg, Virginia. But sure enough, Doodley DeRose attended Virginia State University the next year. Now teachers and students at Kennedy High School, DeRose’s alma mater, are dealing with the loss of the 19-year-old, killed in front of his house this past December. “His death was very difficult for me,” McNeil said.
