Georgia Avenue Baptist Church opened in 1953, then known as Glenmont Baptist Chapel, and the church is very proud of itsMore history. The multi-cultural congregation hangs flags in its sanctuary as a reflection of its diversity, and runs a regular choir program. Lead by Rev. Ellis Moore, the church holds weekly bible study groups for teens, adults and seniors, and has an education program for younger children.

The Gilchrist Center offers classes and other educational opportunities to all community members, with a focus on theMore needs of immigrants and their families. In 2010, the organization moved to its new offices at the Mid-County Regional Service Center.

The Gilchrist Center offers English classes at various levels, computer classes and various life skills classes. On weeknights and weekends, the center moves its classes to the Wheaton Public Library's 1st floor, located at 11701 Georgia Ave. The Center has over seventy active volunteers.
