Blair Defeats Northwood in Battle of the Boulevard

The Blazers won their last three games of the season, including the Battle of the Boulevard on Friday.

The atmosphere on Friday night at David J. Kappa Stadium was electric. Fans from the home Northwood High School and the visiting Montgomery Blair High School flocked to the game to cheer on their respective schools. The two high schools are less than a mile from one another, separated by only a stretch of University Boulevard. The night was highlighted by a special appearance from Larry Michael, a 1974 Northwood graduate and current voice of the Washington Redskins. Michael performed the opening coin toss in honor of senior night. Prior to Friday's fourth annual "Battle of the Boulevard," as the rivalry has come to be known, Northwood senior student-athletes were honored on the field with their families. Northwood and Blair Prepare for Battle of the Boulevard

The Gladiators and Blazers will face each other in the last game of the season tonight.

For most of the year, Blair and Northwood's players and coaches have maintained great relationships. Many of the players from both schools grew up together and still live in the same neighborhoods. The coaches, meanwhile, talk regularly and often bump into each other at clinics throughout the year. On Friday however, none of that will matter when the two teams square off in the fourth installment of the "Battle of the Boulevard," an annual meeting between the bitter, albeit for one day, rivals. The game will start at Northwood at 6:30 p.m. The two schools are separated by barely more than a mile on Silver Spring's University Boulevard, hence the title given to the game.
