Regional Soccer Quarterfinals: Kennedy Sneaks Past Damascus

The Cavaliers won in overtime on Tuesday.

Kennedy High School's boys varsity soccer team faced off against Damascus High School on Tuesday evening at home in the quarterfinals of the regional playoffs. With Kennedy's record of 9-1-3 paired against Damascus's 1-11, the pairing was nothing if not mismatched. In the first half, the level of play matched the numbers. The Cavaliers kicked off the match as expected, as one of the team's leading scorers, Moussa Traore, made a goal within the first 10 minutes of play, establishing a 1-0 lead that lasted throughout most of the game. However, the second half saw a momentum shift in favor of Damascus. "We let them get in the game and the calls got in our heads," said Kennedy coach Kristin Werdann.
