The boy's varsity lacrosse teams from Wheaton High School and Northwood High School qualified for the state tournament.
When the Maryland boy's and girl's state lacrosse tournaments get underway Wednesday, Wheaton High School and Northwood High School will be in the mix. Boy's Bracket Wheaton is seeded No. 8 in the 3A/2A West region and will face No. 9 Northwood in the first round. The winner will play against No. 1 Middletown High School in the second round. The music in the show comes from the past six decades.
This weekend, Northwood High School is taking audiences through a musical review of the last six decades. Northwood students will perform Billboard Magic 2013; DECADIA, which includes popular, toe-tapping music from the 1950s, '60s, '70s, '80, '90s and 2000s to today. The show will run Thursday, April 18 (7 p.m.), Friday, April 19 (7 p.m.), and Saturday, April 20 (2 p.m. and 7 p.m.) Each performance will be held at the Harry A. Two Wheaton high school seniors were among 21 from Montgomery County to win $1,000 scholarships from Comcast. Update, 4 p.m. Police charged Chidat Tarawally, 18, of Silver Spring, with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and possession of a weapon on school property, according to a news release from the police department. Tarawally, a student at Northwood High School in Silver Spring, is a suspect in the Monday morning stabbing of a 15-year-old fellow student. However, scores from the Wheaton High School class of 2012 students came in last in Montgomery County Public Schools rankings.
Good news from the schools: Montgomery County public school students in the class of 2012 "set an all-time record on the SAT and significantly outperformed their peers across the state and the nation on the college entrance exam," according to a Montgomery County Public Schools press release. "MCPS graduates scored an average combined score of 1,651 on the SAT, which is 184 points higher than state of Maryland public school graduates and 153 points higher than the nation’s graduates, according to data released [on Monday, Sept. 24] ... by the College Board," the statement continued. We are in the downcounty consortium of 5 high schools and she can choose to anyone of the 4 high schools listed above plus Montgomery Blair.
