President Obama delivered his State of the Union address Tuesday night, focusing on the economy and legislative action to end gun violence. Andraka, 16, of Crownsville made a huge splash in 2012 with his invention of a sensor that can help more accurately and efficiently detect pancreatic cancer. The White House Saturday released an official photograph of President Obama skeet shooting at Camp David in Catoctin Mountain Park in Frederick County, MD. The photo, taken last August, shows a jeans-clad Obama firing at clay targets on the grounds of the presidential retreat, the White House said. It was released after skepticism surfaced about Obama's statement quoted in The New Republic that he participates in skeet shooting regularly. "If he is a skeet shooter, why have we not heard of this? Why have we not seen photos?" Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) said earlier this week. Every four years, in the days leading up to Jan. 20, the population of the Washington, DC, metro area swells with revelers looking to celebrate the president’s inauguration. A cottage industry of inauguration-related merchandise and other services crop up, including rental properties to house some of the visitors. Craigslist, VRBO, Airbnb and a number of other websites already are offering rental housing for the Jan. 20, 2013 event. We haven't seen much of Vice President Joe Biden in the national media lately. His GOP challenger, Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, on the other hand, has been giving media interviews routinely. But America knows Biden and has seen him in national debates before. It will be the public's introduction to Ryan in such a high-stakes scenario. Much of Maryland is split on Thursday's Supreme Court ruling. Some analysts felt President Barack Obama scored a huge win Thursday. Some officials felt Republican challenger Mitt Romney will benefit from conservative momentum following the decision. Either way, Thursday's Supreme Court ruling—one that upheld the individual mandate that requires the purchase of insurance as a tax—thrust health care to the top of the list of campaign topics heading toward November. The Twitter nation waited and watched for the Supreme Court ruling on President Obama's healthcare act Thursday morning. Seconds after the ruling was released, the social media outlet exploded in confusion. Early reports from CNN said the Affordable Care Act had been struck down, the Associated Press reported that the law had been upheld, some claimed it was too early to have a correct analysis.
