Police have arrested a 20-year-old in the stabbing; he is charged with attempted first-degree murder.
Montgomery County police responding to an emergency call at approximately 10 p.m., April 16, thought they were rushing to the scene of a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle in the area of Georgia Avenue and Reedie Drive in Wheaton. Instead, they found an 18-year-old man who had been stabbed approximately 16 times, according to an April 25 statement from police. Fire and rescue responders transported him to a local trauma center with life-threatening injuries. He has since been released and is recovering at home, police said. Police arrested Devante Ryan McNeil, 20, whose address was unconfirmed, without incident on April 18 in Silver Spring, after obtaining an arrest warrant the day before. A Metro bus passenger was convicted of second-degree attempted murder Tuesday, according to an Examiner report. Victor McEachin, 52, of Aspen Hill, stabbed a bus driver at the Wheaton Metro Station after the driver asked him to stop masturbating, Patch reported last fall. As 2011 draws to a close, we have compiled a list of the biggest crime stories in Wheaton this year: 1. The kidnappings of three elderly men at Wheaton Plaza in late November looms large in recent memory. In the span of five days, the suspect forced each of the three men to drive him around to area ATMs and withdraw cash. Police arrested a man from Landover Nov. 30. 2.
