Two Montgomery County Elementary Schools Nominated for Green Ribbon Award

Two Montgomery County elementary schools are the only schools in Maryland nominated in a U.S. Department of Education environmental and sustainability program.

Cedar Grove Elementary School in Germantown and Summit Hall Elementary School in Gaithersburg have been nominated by the Maryland State Department of Education to receive the 2013 Green Ribbon Schools Award. They are the only schools in Maryland to receive nominations in the program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, according to a statement from Montgomery County Public Schools. The Green Ribbon Schools Award "recognizes schools that save energy, reduce costs, feature environmentally sustainable learning spaces, protect health, foster wellness, and offer environmental education to boost academic achievement and community engagement," according to the statement.
