Angels for Children Toy Drive Launches 14th Year

See the list of drop-off locations where you can donate to this local toy drive.

The Wheaton & Kensington Chamber of Commerce and the Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad are collecting toys for children who otherwise might not receive any this holiday season.  The Angels for Children Toy Drive, which is in its 14th year, will officially launch Wednesday evening at the chamber's holiday mixer at The Limerick Pub in Wheaton. The toy drive organizers are asking for gifts, money, and gift wrap (paper and tape). Here is a list of the toy donation drop-off box locations: For more information on how to donate money, see the Wheaton & Kensington Chamber of Commerce website.

Holiday on Duty: Providing Thanksgiving Meals to Police, Firefighters

The Wheaton & Kensington Chamber of Commerce is running its Holiday on Duty program again this year.

It may be a holiday for you and your family this Thursday (unless you work at Target), but many police, firefighters and other public safety personnel stay on duty--ready to respond to emergencies in Wheaton and Kensington. For more than a decade, the Wheaton & Kensington Chamber of Commerce has provided meals to emergency responders on holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. This Thursday, food will go to Montgomery County police, the Kensington Volunteer Fire Department and the Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad. If you would like to help or donate to the Holiday on Duty program, you can find out more information on the Wheaton & Kensington Chamber of Commerce's website.

Any idea what will become of the old WVFS space on the corner of Blueridge and Grandview? With all of the vacant retail spaces on that block, the WVFS always gave me a sense of security when walking that block.   more ›

Event Preview: Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad Groundbreaking

The rescue squad will be constructing a new building across from the Wheaton Library.

The Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad will be breaking ground next Saturday at its new location at the corner of Georgia Avenue and Arcola Avenue. The July 14 ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. Although the Montgomery County government is contributing 50 percent of the project funds, the Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad holds the contracts with the architects and construction company. The new two-story firehouse is on schedule for completion in late summer 2013.
