BEN MAUGER’SS VINTAGE JAZZ BAND – Sunday April 28th 2:00-4:30pm
Come enjoy an afternoon of Hot Jazz and dancing! We expect the atmosphere to be remarkably tuneful as we welcome back “Ben Mauger’s Vintage Jazz Band” from Pennsylvania for an encore performance. There’s a fine dance floor, so grab a partner and shake your booty! BMVJB, led by Ben and featuring a cast of accomplished all-stars (and maybe a few surprise guests.)
They perform the early jazz that was made famous in the 1920’s by such greats as King Oliver, Fats Waller and Louis Armstrong. To tell the truth, when Ben plays you might agree you’re hearing a strong hint of Louis in his style. The band has played for jazz societies throughout the East Coast and they’re back for Washingtonians!

FREE performances and events for kids and families! All year long, InterAct Story Theatre artists create stories with kids, and invite them to share their epic stories with us. This May, we’re choosing some of our favorite stories written by kids over the years, as we present a series of short plays and stories performed by our InterActors. Join the Potomac River Jazz Club for a free ZOOM talk on Alex Hill, a genius of jazz who wrote for the likes of Louis Armstrong, arranged charts for Paul Whiteman and Duke Ellington, who played piano and led bands in Chicago and New York City. Bringing Hill to life is Hal Smith, one of America’s leading trad jazz drummers, teachers – on the faculty of the New Orleans Trad Jazz Camp – and jazz historian.

This is a unique event that combines wine tasting and basket making. Join us to sip and savor a selection of 4 wines while using your creativity to weave your own basket. You will also receive a $3 wine voucher to be applied to any wine bottle purchase. 
In this workshop, you will learn how to make a continuous weave basket with a self-binding rim. We will work with both natural and colored reeds.
