Why Go? Bob Rauschenberg painted America in a unique light and this play matches his vision with a “road trip” of sights and sounds.

Why Go? This 5k, the fourth in the Grand Prix series put on by Road Runners of America will feature a kids fun-run and roses for the winners. Perfect if you’re ever wanted to run a 5k, and want to do so nearby.

Where/When: Silver Spring Civic Building, 1 Veterans Place; June 18, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Why Go? Musical Petting Zoo. Someone report back on what a musical petting zoo is. In wider appeal, this festival will feature some great blues performers—both electric and acoustic—like the DC Blues Society Band, The Kinsey Report and others. Plus, a free harmonic playing workshop.

Where/When: Grounds of ; June 18, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Why Go? Three civic associations have come together to host a festival for the Wheaton and Glenmont areas. There will be games, raffles, food and a good dose of community pride. Look for Wheaton Patch’s full preview of this event tomorrow.

Why Go? Have a middle-schooler who loves to dance? This rec center event will teach kids the latest dances.
Pricing: $10 residents, $12, non-residents

Where/When: , 603 Edmonston Dr, Rockville; 8 p.m. June 17 and 18, 2 p.m. June 19.
Why Go? The Mikado is a story of three maids, a pompous government official, a High executioner and a ministrel. We can’t figure out what the punch line to that joke is, but if you’re a fan of the works of Gilbert and Sullivan, check out the Victorian Lyric Opera Company’s performance this week.
