American Legion Post 268, 11225 Fern Street
Melvin Taylor, who has played with B.B. King, Buddy Guy and Carlos Santana, headlines the annual party, which includes dinner, champagne and dancing. The dinner is Southern style, with turkey ham, black-eyed peas, greens, cornbread and more.

Tickets are $30 for DCBS members, $35 for non-members in advance, and $35/$40 at the door.
1800 Glenallan Avenue
Enjoy the Garden of Lights, plus crafts and music in the Visitors Center from 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. See photos of the different lights display and add your own. Cost: $25 per car. Classical harpist Jim Dronenberg will perform from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Visitors Center.

Wheaton’s favorite Irish pub will offer twice the New Year’s Eve fun with not one, but two celebrations – one on Ireland time (7:00 p.m.) and one at the more traditional midnight hour. Call 301-946-3232 for more information.

Rock in the New Year with Little Feat at the area’s newest music venue, The Fillmore Silver Spring. Tickets are $55 per person. Doors are scheduled to open at 8:00 p.m. with a TBD opening act playing from 9:00 p.m.-9:30 p.m. and headliners Little Feat jamming from 10:00 p.m.-12:30 a.m. with a New Year’s Eve countdown.
