Bites Nearby: Stained Glass Pub

Each week, Wheaton Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that's worth checking out. Here's this week's choice.

has half-priced pizza, electronic trivia, a Simpson's pinball machine and flat screens showing half a dozen games at once.

Take that, Chuck E. Cheese.

Mondays and Tuesdays are host to the popular half-price pizza special (eat-in only). On other nights, print this coupon for three dollars off your eat-in or take-out pizza. The sauce is out of this world and the topping options are copious and fresh.

The specialty sandwiches are fabulous for lunch or dinner. My favorite is the grilled veggie sub (I request a bit of that awesome pizza sauce on the side for dipping). My husband dreams of their Reuben, piled high with meat and dripping with dressing. Potato chips and a hearty pickle on the side round out a great meal.

Large groups are welcome, and often you will see adult soccer and other teams celebrating around a long table in the dining room. The waitstaff is always agreeable, no matter how large the order or lively your crowd. Kids are also warmly greeted and the kids' menu is a winner.

For a mellowly enjoyable (and competitive) date night, request a couple electronic trivia consoles, a pitcher of beer and head to one of the bar booths. See if you can best any of the regular ringers with your pop culture and history knowledge.

12510 Layhill Rd., Silver Spring. 301-933-4444.

Open Mon - Thurs, 11:30am - 1am; Fri - Sat, 11:30am - 2am; Sun; noon - 1:30am.
