Demolition Begins at First Baptist Church

Washington Properties Company plans to build apartments on the Georgia Avenue site.

Demolition at on Georgia Avenue officially begins next week, but unofficially, it's already started.

Windows are already missing from the two-story structure, a 50-year-old historic landmark located at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Veirs Mill Road, approximately a quarter-mile from the Wheaton Metro Station.

Rob Klein, who works for the county's Wheaton Redevelopment Program, told the Wheaton Redevelopment Advisory Committee at its June meeting that the church had given permission to start the demolition process early.
