Area Schools Compete at Damascus HS Pompon Invitational

The Damascus HS Pompon Invitational was held on Saturday, Jan 18th with six Montgomery County teams battling for the top prize for Captains Award, Spirit Award and Team Award.  Springbrook, Bethesda Chevy Chase, Gaithersburg, Walter Johnson, Kennedy and Wheaton High School squads, use the County Pompon Division III event as a warm up for the Montgomery County Pompon Championships which take place on Saturday, February 1st at Richard Montgomery High School.  The teams are judged on choreography, technical pompon, technical dance, group execution and overall presentation.  Following all the teams performances the Captains Award was presented first.  Walter Johnson HS Captain Danielle Schapiro received 3rd place, Wheaton HS Captain Thao Nguyen 2nd place and Bethesda Chevy Chase HS Captain Emma Neuser received 1st place.  Gaithersburg HS was awarded the Spirit Award, who's fans came out in force to cheer on their school.  For Team Award, Gaithersburg HS received 3rd place, Bethesda Chevy Chase HS received 2nd place and Walter Johnson HS received 1st place.  The teams have two weeks to prepare for their final big event at the county competition.
