Driving in the Snow: Tips from Alto Driving School in Wheaton

Be sure to bring an ice scraper, gloves and a blanket.

How can you prepare for driving in the snow? Patch asked Moshe Milstein, the
general manager of Alto Driving School in Wheaton, for some tips.

#1.  Stay home if possible.  Many people make unnecessary trips in bad
weather, and often get trapped in the bad weather or have accidents.

#2.  Don't make any sudden movements.  Make all of you accelerating,
braking and steering actions as smooth and gradual as possible.

#3.  If you have a 4-wheel drive car or a 4x4 truck or SUV, don't get
cocky.  Having these features improves traction in bad weather, but in
snow or ice you will get stuck just like everyone else if you drive
too fast or make sudden movements.

#4.  Be prepared for the worst.  In the event that you are stopped,
make sure that you have an ice scraper for your windows, gloves and a
blanket.
