Spend Time in the Great Outdoors in June

Find out what events are scheduled for Great Outdoors Month in Maryland.

State officials have announced their plans for Great Outdoors Month in June, inviting Maryland residents to mark Celebrate Maryland Outdoors Days from June 8 to 22.

The second annual outdoors days aims to get families outside. State officials also invite organiztions to share outdoor events on their website. The outdoors days start with National Get Outdoors Day on June 8 and ends with the Great American Backyard Campout on June 22, according to a Department of Natural Resources release. Some state parks will offer special programs around the campout day.

“June marks the end of school, the excitement and anticipation of summer, and the perfect time to encourage our children to connect with nature through outside activities,” Gov. Martin O’Malley said in the release. "Celebrate Maryland Outdoors Days reminds everyone to take the time to enjoy and explore the unique sights, sounds and recreation our natural world provides."
