Police allege Riverdale man scammed multiple residents of the Inwood House in Wheaton.

People with physical or mental disabilities were the target of the scam in which victims lost more than $10,000, police said.

Deshaune Johnson, 50, of Riverdale has been charged with multiple counts of obtaining property from a vulnerable adult and carrying out a theft scheme, the Washington Post reported.

One of the victims, Edward Jones, 44, said he met Johnson at the Wheaton Metro Station, police said. According to the Washington Post, Johnson "told Jones he could get him a job as a school janitor. All Jones had to do was hand over $460 for a uniform and a background check."
