Resurfacing of University Blvd to Start Soon

Expect lane closures during the day.

The State Highway Administration announced that they are ready to start resurfacing the next section of University Boulevard, after finishing two segments that run through Wheaton last year.

The stretch, from Arcola Avenue to Colesville Road (Route 29), is in bad shape, and the project includes resurfacing of all lanes, reconstructing existing sidewalks and ramps to comply with ADA standards, as well as cleaning and repairing existing inlets, pipes, curb and gutters.

"You'll see it start within the next week or so," said spokesperson Charlie Gischlar. Drivers riding through that section can expect single lane closures from Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Sunday through Thursday between 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. and double lane closures Sunday through Thursday between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Gischlar said that single lane closures might happen in the meantime, to bring in equipment.

The work should continue until the fall.
