Primary Election 2012: Polling Location Changes

Early voting for Maryland's 2012 primary election begins this weekend. As a result of redistricting, there are a number of precinct changes that impact the location of polling places.

Maryland’s 2012 primary election will be held on April 3. As a result of redistricting for both Congress and the Montgomery County school board, there are a number of precinct changes that impact the location of polling places, as set by our local Board of Elections.  These changes will stay in effect for the November general election as well.  The following changes impact our community.

In Rockville, Precinct 4-15 (Randolph Hills), which votes at the Rocking Horse Center, was divided along Randolph Road in school board redistricting.  The area north of Randolph Road will continue to vote at the Rocking Horse Center and will retain designation as Precinct 4-15.  The area south of Randolph Road will be designated Precinct 4-26 and will vote at the Veirs Mill Local Park building at the intersection of Garrett Park Road and Beach Drive.

In Kensington, Precinct 13-34 (Town of Kensington), which votes at the Kensington Armory, was divided along the CSX tracks in school board redistricting. The area north of the tracks will continue to vote at the Armory and will retain the designation of Precinct 13-34.  The area south of the tracks will be merged with Precinct 13-03 and vote at Temple Emanuel on Connecticut Avenue.

In Silver Spring, Precinct 13-66 (North Hills of Sligo Park), which voted at the Argyle Recreation Center, will be eliminated and merged into Precinct 13-14 (Woodside Park).  The polling place for the expanded Precinct 13-14 will remain at St. Luke Lutheran Church at the corner of Colesville Road and Dale Drive.

Also in Silver Spring, Precinct 13-17 (McKinney Hills), which voted at the McKinney Hills Center, will also be eliminated and merged with Precinct 13-58 (Capital View/Forest Glen).  The polling place for the expanded Precinct 13-58 will remain at the Knights of Columbus Hall just off Forest Glen Road.

In Chevy Chase, Precinct 13-26 (Chevy Chase View), which voted at Cedar Lane UU Church, will be eliminated and merged with Precinct 13-38 (Parkwood).  The polling place for the expanded Precinct 13-38 will remain at Kensington Parkwood Elementary School.

The Board of Elections also considered eliminating Precinct 7-26 (Chevy Chase Lake), but ultimately decided to leave it unchanged.  Thus, residents of Precinct 7-26 will continue to use the Chevy Chase Library as their polling place.

However, should you wish to cast your ballot before April 3, please remember that early voting will take place beginning this Saturday, March 24 through Thursday, March 29, at one of five Montgomery County early voting centers.  To locate the early voting center nearest to you, please click here.
