Soccer teams have a new place to play in Wheaton Regional Park.
The new Wheaton Sports Pavilion, a covered synthetic turf field located at 11751 Orebaugh Avenue, opens to the public on Sunday.
Montgomery Parks has organized an open house from 1-3 p.m. with games and drills with local soccer teams, a scrimmage at 2 p.m., giveaways, door prizes and refreshments.
The sports pavilion, with its 200-by-85 feet field, takes the place of the park's original outdoor ice rink. Skaters can still use the indoor Wheaton Ice Arena next door.
Groups can rent the sports pavilion to play soccer, lacrosse and Futsal (a five-a-side version of soccer played on basketball-sized courts). See the Montgomery Parks website for rental rates.
